Kurtis fell in love with music as a small child; in fact his favorite toy was a Fisher Price record player. He wore out 3 of them because he played them so much. He always loved any kind of musical instruments and if he could get his hands on any he would try to figure them out and play something on it. But his biggest love was singing and he use to sing to his Mom in the kitchen when he was 5. He always wanted to be a singer in a band and always gravitated towards music that was vocally strong.

He picked up the drums and practiced as much as he could, playing along with music he loved to listen to. He then started playing with friends in punk bands, just jamming and having fun. While all this was going on he was constantly writing lyrics for songs in his head. He decided to start his own band and with a few friends got an 80’s Hair Metal band together. Still only playing the drums they looked for singers but none fit the bill. They were recording their first demo in a little studio in Concord and still had no singer. So they all looked at each other and said ok who can sing the best. So with no vocal lessons Kurtis laid down the vocal tracks on the first demo. After that demo he took lessons and came out from behind the drums to front the band. That band was called Jaded Heart and Kurtis fell in love with being the front man.

Soon after becoming the front man he bought a guitar and started learning to play it on his own. Trying to add music to the large amount of lyrics he had piled up. After the crash and Burn of 80’s rock and roll Kurtis kept on writing, but his style has always been more on the folk side. So all the songs had a country type sound to them, along with the country sound in his vocals it all fit.

As time passed he got into two cover bands that he is still playing in. One band called The Rock O’Matics he plays the drums and sings lead vocals. He then got into another cover band called Dead Wait as the Lead singer. Both bands in 2008 decided to record demos at the same time to help sell the bands. While in the studio recording these demos Kurtis realized how much he has always wanted to record his own CD of his own music. So he hooked up with the studio’s producer and the 2008 CD Parcae became the fruits of his labor of love. During the recording of Parcae Kurtis was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. With the notion that he could lose his vocals or damage them with surgery he quickly finished all the tracks and mastering before the day of the knife. He is currently practicing with both bands and almost fully recovered vocally.
